April 16, 2020 – On April 16, 2020 at about 10:30 am, Pueblo police detectives arrested 36-year-old Melanie Cuevas in Monte Vista for accessory to first degree murder in the homicide investigation of Mary Cuevas-Garcia, 58, which occurred on October 17, 2019. She will be booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center.

Anthony Cuevas, 26, and the son of Mary Garcia, remains in jail on charges of 1st degree murder. Her remains were found in a trash bin in the area of Ivywood Lane and Vinewood Lane and then more of her remains were found in a bag in the river more recently.

We are told that he had recently moved to Pueblo from Monte Vista and is said to have been slowing putting her finances in his name, including the vehicle he allegedly drove to the dumpster with, which was sold to a local scrap yard after the incident. He had a warrant for his arrest when police put him in jail last October, for violation of parole, and is said to have been addicted to drugs once again upon being released from prison.

Anyone with further information about this incident that may help the police is encouraged to contact Detective Gravatt at (719) 320-6022. To remain anonymous, contact Pueblo Crime Stoppers @ 542-STOP (542-7867) or www.pueblocrimestoppers.com. If your Crime Stoppers information leads to a felony arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward. Photos of Melanie Cuevas, Anthony Cuevas and his mother Mary Cuevas-Garcia.
